Some threats to ireland included them losing an irish commissioner, threat of neutrality, and the threat on the right of life (abortion laws)

First time MEPs had legislative role with agricultural budget in which the voice of MEPs was louder and the commission had to listen
Lead candidate principle- with upcoming parliament elections, party groupings decide on a lead candidate who in their view should then become the lead candidate of the strongest party and the head of the new incoming European Commission (never the case before because heads of govn would debate and then choose one candidate)
-Treaty of Lisbon made the high representative for CFSP a vice-president of the commission
