More chapter 4 because it sucks Flashcards
whats the difference between image-based object recognition theories and parts-based obkect recognition theories
image based is when an object you have seen before is stored in memory as a template. Parts based is when the brain deconstructs objects we see into a colletion of parts.
change blindness-
occurs when people fail to detect changes to the visual details of a scene
what are some depth cues in monocular vision:
- Interposition- object in front is perceived as closer 2. Linear perspective- parallels lines receding converge at a point on the horizon. 3. Texture- the finer the detail, the closer the object 4. Shading- can provide 3D info 5. size- larger object are perceived as closer
Inattentional blindness-
a failure to perceive objects that are not the focus of attention
figure:
a visual stimulus that is perceived as a self0contained object
Binocular disparity:
the difference in the retinal images of the 2 eyes that provide information about depth
ground:
a visual stimulus that is perceived as a formless backgrond
the ames room is designed to demonstrate what?
the size distance illusion
Monocular:
are aspect that yield information about depth when viewed with only one eye. Relies on relationship between distance and size
what are the gestalt laws of a grouping:
- Law of proximity- elements closest together are perceived as belonging together 2. Law of similarity- elements that look similar are perceived as being part of the same form 3. Good continuiance- when elements are interrupted the simplest interpretation is preferred 4. Pragnanze (good form)- a stimulus will be organized into as good a figure as possible 5. Law of closure - we supply missing information
