Define Autonomy
The right of patients to self-determine.
Define Beneficence
The obligation to promote the good of the patient/client.
Define Code of Ethics
A document that guides ethical behavior for physical therapists.
Define Confidentiality
The obligation to not disclose patient information.
Define Ethics
A systemic reflection on issues of right or wrong or regarding what we “ought” to do.
What is the Guide for Conduct of the PTA?
An expansion on the Code of Ethics by the EJC to apply basic principles of ethical conduct for PTAs.

An expansion on the Code of Ethics by the EJC that interprets the principles of the Code of Ethics.
Define Justice
The principle of fairness.
Define legality
Whether or not something abides by local, state, or national laws.
Define Morality
Whether something is right/acceptable or wrong/unacceptable based on laws, traditions, values, etc.
Define Non-maleficence
To do no harm and to prevent harm.
Define Paternalism
Restricting autonomy through decision making for the patient.
Define Values
Standards of quality, worth, desirability, good v. bad, or right v. wrong. Varies person to person.
