Q

How are non-CFP crossers dealt with (civil or mil)? (x8)

A
  • Planner shall create blocking strip
  • Hook blocking strip in Departure bay and use LAD to assess levels
  • Enter level as NFL and accept; a TDL will appear in pending bay
  • Use ‘Show Crosser’ to point out to tac
  • Planner shall confirm clearance with tac
  • Tac will tick the DOF box to acknowledge (TDL will move to incomm bay)
  • Planner to record crossing clearance any conditions in remarks field of EFS
  • Planner to tick once clearance passed

Q

How do Swanwick Mil block more than one level for a CFP and how is this dealt with?

A
  • Swanwick Mil will submit one CFP for each level
  • If multiple CFPs are offered, only the first level will be probed by iFatcs - Planner will need to create blockers for remaining levels
  • Only the EFS that corresponds to the first offer will be fully populated with route info - all others will be departure and destination only (recommended to use same callsign)

24
Q

Above what level can CPDLC be used?

25
Is the planner authorised to use CPDLC?
The tactical may request planner to send CPDLC messages to particular aircraft though the tac remains responsible for all RT
26
What clearances can be sent by CPDLC? (x12)
- Route - Proceed direct to - Climb - Descend - Descend level by - Speed - Fly heading (ATN only) - Continue present heading (ATN only) - State RFL - Unable - Standby - Request with next unit
27
How can CPDLC be used to help with a stuck microphone?
A 'stuck microphone' check can be sent to all CPDLC equipped aircraft that are incomm with sector and have London set as CDA. Button is at the bottom of main display and specific frequency being blocked can also be sent
28
If a pilot requests logon details for CPDLC, what should they be told? What if they are having difficulties?
- London EGTT - Discontinue attempts if having difficulty (no technical advice can be given)
29
Can an aircraft be incommed via CPDLC?
No, 2-way voice comms must be established
30
How will controller know if outcomm instruction fails? What must they do?
An UNABLE response, error or failure will be shown on line 0 of TDB Aircraft is to be outcommed by voice or re-incommed if required
31
What restrictions are there for sending route clearances via CPDLC?
- When sending a single route point it must be on the FMS route - When sending multiple route points, the last waypoint must be on the FMS route - FANS equipped aircraft - only 5-letter waypoints can be sent for multiple points
32
Can 'level by' or 'level abeam' be instructed by CPDLC?
Level by - yes Level abeam - no
33
What restrictions are there for sending headings via CPDLC?
- Only absolute values, not relative turns eg. left 5 degrees - Headings can be sent to ATN equipped a/c only
34
What restrictions are there for sending speeds via CPDLC?
- Only Mach OR IAS can be sent, not both - IAS only in 10kt increments
35
How does iFACTS differentiate clearances sent by voice vs CPDLC?
Anticipates that it will take longer for an aircraft to respond to CPDLC so amends trajectories accordingly
36
What considerations apply for CPDLC during bandboxing and splitting?
- During splitting, aircraft must be transferred by voice and moved on to ensure the correct sector has the aircraft incomm - All pending/timeout/standby/fail/reject indications shall be briefed during handover - During handover no CPDLC instructions shall be issued
37
If a pending clearance for an ATN aircraft needs to be revised how is this done?
"Callsign, disregard CPDLC (message type) message and respond UNABLE, (new clearance)" Message types are: route, heading, level, speed, contact
38
If a pending clearance for a FANS aircraft needs to be revised how is this done?
"Callsign, disregard CPDLC (message type) message, (new clearance), disconnect CPDLC and revert to voice" Message types are: route, level, speed, contact Controller must ensure equipage status is changed to DLN
39
When will a pending CPDLC clearance to an ATN aircraft timeout? How will the contoller know and what must be done?
- Timeout after 2 mins if no response - Indicated on the TDB and CPDLC clearance will be deleted - New clearance can be sent by voice or CPDLC
40
When will a pending CPDLC clearance to a FANS aircraft timeout? How will the contoller know and what must be done?
- Timeout after 2 mins if no response - Indicated on the TDB - If it can be confirmed via RTF that flight crew have received and are complying, no further action required - If message not received, they shall be instructed to disconnect using following phraseology: "Callsign, disregard CPDLC (message type) message. Disconnect CPDLC and revert to voice"
41
What are the 3 different responses the flight crew can make to a CPDLC clearance?
WILCO - will comply STANDBY - timer extends for 2 mins UNABLE - clearance is to be revised or cancelled asap
42
What does CE REJECT indicate on line 0 of a TDB?
A clearance is rejected by SFS - must be re-entered or sent by voice
43
What should a controller do if they see the message "NDA NOTIFY-NEXT DATA AUTHORITY (NAME) NOT NOTIFIED"?
Automatic forwarding of aircraft logon has failed so controller should pass next authority details eg. "Next CPDLC centre Maastricht - EDYY"
44
How may a controller respond to a route direct request?
Use CPDLC to clear aircraft to waypoint or respond UNABLE. Any subsequent routeing instructions may be given via CPDLC or voice. 'Req again with next' should only be used by the last LAC sector
45
What happens to outstanding CPDLC requests when outcommed?
For LAC to LAC transfers they will remain visible on incomm
46
Is the use of 'remove primaries' allowed on the radar display?
Not at sectors receiving traffic from external units
47
Can 'remove all background tracks' be used by the tactical?
No but the 'remove b/g' quicklook key can be used temporarily
48
What are the vertical limits for removal of background tracks?
From 8,000ft below base and 4,000ft above
49
Can 'remove 7000' be used?
Yes but not recommended for sectors with low level airspace unless excessive clutter. 'Retain targets and trails' may be used
50
What must be selected on the tactical display? (x6)
- Separation monitor (on main display and not obscured) - Groundspeed - 5nm markers - FFP - Mode S recommended - Vector lines optional
51
What must be selected on the planners display? (x8)
- Separation monitor (on main display and not obscured) - Offered bay - Accepted bay - FFP - Mode S recommended - Vector lines optional - Flight messages optional - Optional to remove 7000 tracks
52
What are display requirements for CT&P ops? (x6)
- All items that are mandatory for tac and planner - Windows positioned to minimise risk of obscuring data - 'Remove primaries' not selected (exceptions DTY, LMS & LUS W) - 'Remove all background tracks' not to be used - SIS screen not to be used for SM, accepted or offered bays - Planner workstation display left with mandatory planner windows open
53
What are the TDB box colours in order of priority?
Red/black flashing - STCA stage 2 (LOS) White/black flashing - STCA stage 1 Red/yellow flashing - Emergency SSR code alert Cyan - Looksee, what if, traffic search Orange - Late acceptance alert Pink - Crosser/CFP Yellow - Interaction point out Blue - Point out
54
What is PRS and conditions for using it?
PRS may be used by planner when coordinating traffic in/out of AC sectors with the following minima: - May assume that a single sector offering more than one aircraft at same level will provide separation, or - 15nm or more between aircraft on converging/crossing tacks at the same level from different sectors, or - If less than 15nm, the tac is informed verbally and using 'point out to sector' - planner remains responsible for monitoring until both are incomm
55
Is it necessary to coordinate a direct routing for aircraft from one sector to another?
No, as long as: - Route is entered in iFACTS - Will enter next sector at the boundary without going through n intermediate sector - Will not affect NAS route - Will not take aircraft off route - Will not compromise ability of next sector to apply separation
56
What is a MAC message used for?
Sent after an ACT message to indicate that a flight will no longer enter airspace of receiving centre
57
What is a REV message used for?
Used to transmit revisions to coordinated data previously sent in an ACT message (eg. level, COP, SSR code, 8.33 and RVSM status, route/COP and ET))
58
What is an AU message?
Activation Update - if a flight cannot be matched with a flight plan an AU message will appear. The LAA or FPRSA will make the amendment and a field 11 'check route' message may appear
