Q

What are the signs of serotonin syndrome

A

Serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition caused by serotonergic overactivity due to the use of serotonergic drugs. It can be caused by a therapeutic dose or overdose of a serotonergic drug, concomitant use of multiple serotonergic drugs, or interactions with CYP450 inhibitors. Onset is typically rapid, occurring within 24 hours of drug administration. Classic features include autonomic dysfunction, neuromuscular excitability (e.g., rigidity, hyperreflexia), and altered mental status. Increased neuromuscular activity can also lead to hyperthermia.
