Temporary, subjective states of feeling. (sadness, anger, disgust)

What is the difference between normal sadness and depression?
Depression is more persistent over time and also with depression there is an absence of situational mood changes.
What is the criteria for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)?
Major depressive episode + no history of mania (an episode of mania would make it a case of bipolar disorder)
What is persistent depressive disorder?
When a case of unipolar depression is chronic.
