-Manic episodes -Depressive episodes common, but not required. -Mania=sudden escalation of mood, abnormally, and persistently euphoric, expansive or irritable -May go days w/o sleep. excessively outgoing, hypersexual, disinhibited, -Racing thoughts, flight of ideas, -Tx: Mood stabilizers (lithium, depakote), 1st and 2nd gen antispychotics
Biopolar I
-One or more major depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode. –Tx: Mood stabilizers (lithium, depakote), 1st and 2nd gen antispychotics
Bipolar II
-Pattern of behavior that involves violation of the basic rights of others or of social norms and at least three of: aggression toward people/animals, destruction of property, deceitfulness, serious violation of rules -Can continue onto antisocial personality disorder in adults -Tx: Environmental and behavior modification, family therapy, -Seen in kids
Conduct disorder
-Depressed mood and anhedonia plus 5+ associated symptoms almost everyday for 2weeks -Fatigue, hyper/insomnia, guilt, worthlessness, recurring thoughts of death or suicide, psychomotor retardation, weight change. -SSRIs first line, CBT
Major depressive disorder
-Begins before 8yrs, -High comorbidity with substance abuse disorders -At least 6mos of hostile, negative, defiant behavior. -Including loss of temper, arguments with adults, defying rules, deliberately annoying, anger/resentment, spitefulness, blaming others -Tx: Individual and family therapy
