What do PET studies show in depressed patients?
PET = decreased perfusion and metabolism in the pre-frontal region (L>R)
(of note: MRI shows decreased volume of hippocampus and caudate nucleus)
What is the age cutoff for “late onset” depression?
What is an important etiological feature of late onset depression?
65 years old.
Less associated with life event and more commonly due to secondary causes (major NCD, structural CNS disease)
