Sub-zone of Barbara d’Asti upgraded to DOCG in 2014, breaking the 3 year DOCG silence.

Available in normale, riserva and reserve w/ ‘vigna’
Barbera del Monferrato
Varietal Barbera DOC available in rosso and rosso frizzante versions.
Colli Tortonesi
Large DOC covering bianco, rosato, and rosso version made from variety of grapes. Also allows frizzante and novello versions.
Varietal wines are key, especially for Moscato, Timorasso and Cortese which all have higher minimums
Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato
Cortese-based DOC available in Bianco, Frizzante and Spumante versions
Dolcetto d’Acqui
DOC based on 100% Dolcetto and available in Normale and Superiore versions
Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese
90% Grignolino DOC, available in Rosso Normale versions only
Monferrato
Large DOC covering basic styles as well as varietal Freisa and Dolcetto
Has a subzone called ‘Casalese’ which produces varietal Cortese

Huge DOC, covering pretty much all wine growing in Piedmont. All different styles including with and without gas and varietal wines
