Momentum Flashcards
What is momentum?
A product of mass and velocity
P = MV
CONSTANT
Is momentum constant?
YES
How does a change in momentum occur?
As a result of a change in velocity, as mass is also constant (P=MV)
This will happen through acceleration and deceleration - through an EXTERNAL force
What are acceleration and deceleration defined as?
The rate of change of velocity
Define inertia
An objects resistance to change its state of motion
What is the state of motion?
It can be both stationary and moving
What happens to inertia as mass increases?
It increases
How can you change an objects state of motion?
By applying an external force
Give an example of an object with inertia
Rugby props = big therefore a bigger external force is required to overcome their inertia.
