Q

What is the principle of moments?

A
For objects (i.e. plank) to be in equilibrium:
Sum of ACW moments = Sum of CW moments
ACW = Anti-clockwise
CW = Clockwise

Q

How do you determine which object is clockwise and which is anti-clockwise?

A

Picture a clock, follow the direction of the force (either weight, down, or lift, up) and see how that direction rotates.

Q

When would an object topple over?

A

When it’s centre of mass goes beyond the point the object is pivoting over (i.e. if the weight of a box is pulling it to the ground)
