Molecular Cell Bio L1 Flashcards
Where are cell signals interpreted?
DNA in order to manufacture proteins.
These instructions are sent to ribosomes to make new proteins to transport outside the cell.
What is a bio marker?
Give 2 examples.
A naturally occurring molecule, gene or characteristic. It it used to identify a change in the body.
CRP - measure of inflammation
Anti citrillunated peptide antibody - diagnose rheumatoid arthritis
What are disease specific bio markers used for in clinic? 4 things
Diagnose disease
Monitor disease progression
Predict response of treatment
Prognostic- low risk - high risk
What is translational research?
Lab > clinic
What is Stratified medicine
Give 2 examples
Using medicine to treat patients with correct treatments
Breast cancer specific bio markers to decide to give medications or none or combo etc
SCID on their own cells, modifying, injecting them back
