mol gen Flashcards
What is another name for gyrase?
topoisomerase
what does Gyrase and Topoisomerase do?
Relieves the supercoiling while going ahead of the replication fork
What are single strand binding proteins? SSBP
They sit on the single stranded DNA and keep them from binding back together
How do SSBP’s get removed?
When the strand gets polymerized they get knocked off
What does helices do?
cut apart the DNA strands at a replication fork
what does primase?
Makes a small piece of RNA called a primer that marks a starting point of replication
The leading strand is made
continuously
In what direction does RNA polymerase add bases?
5’->3’
what does it mean that DNA replication is semi conservative ?
It means that there is one old and one new strand
Why do telomeres shorten?
Because the primer cannot be replaced on lagging strand
what does euchromatic mean?
loosely coiled and part of strand that is actively transcribed
what does heterochromatic mean?
Tightly coiled
Are telomeres hetero or euchromatic?
hetero
