MOHO Flashcards
What is the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)?
A conceptual model of practice that evolved from Reilly’s occupational behavior model and general systems theory.
What is the MOHO defined as?
A set of evolving theoretical arguments that are translated into a specific technology for practice and are refined and tested through research.
What does the MOHO stress?
Stresses the importance of mind/body connection in its depiction of how motivation (internal) and performance of occupations (external) are interconnected.
MOHO was the first OT model to do what?
Conceptualize the interactive and cyclical nature of human interaction with one’s environment.
What is the focus of the MOHO?
On the person and how the environment contributes to one’s source of motivation, patterns of behavior, and performance.
What is Heterarchy?
The principle that parts of any system will interact with each other in ways that depends on the situation. ex. An occupational therapist can not treat a client’s problems as a vacuum.
What is Occupational Competence?
The degree to which one sustains a pattern of occupation participation that represents one’s occupational identity.
What is Competence?
Competence is the ability to put into action what a person regards as meaningful.
What is Occupational Adaptation?
The outcome of a positive occupational identity and achievement of occupational competence.
What is Inefficacy?
Decreased function and dissatisfaction with one’s performance.
What are the two main constructs of the MOHO?
- Person
2. Environment
According to this model, man is an open system made up of three interacting subsystems. What are they?
- Volition
- Habituation
- Mind-Brain-Body Performance
What is input?
May be defined as external information that typically and naturally surrounds a person and is taken in via one’s five senses. This input may or may not be meant for the person directly.
What is skilled action?
A goal-directed action that can be externally witnessed.
What happens when a person takes a skilled action?
There will always be some form of feedback (external) from the environment about her performance behavior.
