MOHO (2) Flashcards
what does MOHO seek to explain?
how occupation is motivated (volition), how it is patterned (habituation), and performed (performance capacity)?
MOHO wants to do what drives the person to engage in
occupation
3 focuses of MOHO
evidence based, client centered, occupation focused
what connection is stressed in MOHO
the mind-body conenction
human occupation is described as the
“doing”
it is interactive with
nature
voliation, habituation, and performance capacity influence
participation, performance, and skill
participation, performance, and skill leads to
occupational identity, occupational comptence, and occupational adaption
occupations of work/play/self-care comprised of
motivational factors
life patterns
performance capacity
enviromental influence
occupation is essential to
self-organization
what is dynamic and context dependent in MOHO?
behavior
3 inter-related subsystems of MOHO
voilition, habituation, performance capacity
process of motivation and choosing what to do
voilition
doing is organized into patterns and routines
habituation
mental and physical abilities to do
performance capacity
volition is influenced by what 3 sub sets of stucture?
personal caustion
interests
values
what is personal caustion under our violition?
our subjective sense of capacity and effectiveness
values are?
convictions towards certain occupational behaviors
interests?
what we find pleasure in/enjoy
volition is influenced by what sub sets of process?
anticipation/ choosing / experiencing / interpretting
cyclic (what we like influences process and thus alwayss under construction)
structure of habituation involves
habits (organized occupational behavior) and internalized roles (social obligations)
process of habituation involves
time (extended and immedaite) + context (depend on enviroment)
performance capacity structure
structure
musculoskeletal/cardio/neuro + symbolic images
process of performance capacity
dynamic interaction w enviroment
volition and habitual subsystems influence this network
reception, planning, and action
enviroment (help or hinder)
physical and social
enviromental influences on behavior
affording (potential for occupational behavior to occur)
pressing (enviromental demands, below capacity = boredom)
a public library affords the opportunity to learn but it presses for avoidance of loud conversations
occupational performance (the doing itself)
how compenent are skills?
participaiton (engagement)
performance of occupational form (activites)
skills (breakdown of components of occupation form)
habituation influenced by
roles and routines
performance skills
motor/process/social interaction
throughput
violition/habituation/performance capacity
output
participation/performance/skill
feedback
occupational identity/occupation adaption/ occupationa competence
our behavior molds us after our
new occupations
what is the point of a MOHO assessment
Questions for each client to see their limitations and how these limitations have changed his/her sense of his/her own occupational capacity
Two principles regarding intervention and change
Change (messy, unorganized), therapy may show no result until peak is reached and new behavior emerges and Volitional change (finding new life narrative)
