Module 9 Flashcards
Conditioned Response
an automatic response established by training to an ordinarily neutral stimulus
Conditioned Stimulus
a previously neutral stimulus that, after repeated association with an unconditioned stimulus, elicits the response produced by the unconditioned stimulus itself
Contiguity Learning
learning by simple association
Continuous Schedule
schedule of reinforcement in which consequences are provided after every single instance of the behavior
Extinction
strategy used to decrease an inappropriate behavior by no longer providing reinforcement for that behavior, or ceasing to provide the paring between stimuli and response
Intermittent Schedule
a schedule of reinforcement in which consequences are provided periodically for the behavior
Law of Effect
behaviors that are associated with good consequences are more likely to occur, whereas behaviors that are associated with bad consequences are less likely to occur again
Neutral Stimuli
all events that do not evoke an automatic response
Positive Practice
the person practices an activity with the appropriate behavior
Praise-and-Ignore
behavioral strategy used to increase an appropriate behavior by providing reinforcement and decrease inappropriate behavior by ignoring the behavior
Premack Principle
behavioral strategy used to increase an appropriate behavior by providing another behavior as reinforcement
Reinforcing Incompatible Behaviors
behavioral strategy used to increase appropriate behavior by providing reinforcement and decrease an inappropriate behavior that cannot occur at the same time
Response Cost
behavioral strategy used to decrease an inappropriate behavior by taking away something desired
Satiation
behavioral strategy used to decrease an inappropriate behavior by having a student perform the behavior until it is no longer reinforcing
Shaping
behavioral strategy used to increase an appropriate behavior by reinforcing small steps toward the behavior
