(Module 8)Photosyntheis Flashcards
Where does photosynthesis take place in the plant
In the leaves and the algae
What cell does photosynthesis take place in
The chloroplast, which contains a green substance called chlorophyll
What is the word equation of photosynthesis/what is in it
Light
Carbon Dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen
What is the symbol equation for photosynthesis
Light
6CO2 + 6H2O —->C6H12O6 +6O2
Is photosynthesis exo or endothermic
It is endothermic because it needs energy from its surroundings
How is glucose used in plants?
1) for respiration
2) making cellulose (for strong plant cell walls)
3) making amino acid - which is then made into protein
4) stored as oils and fats - turned into lipids for storing seeds
5) stored as starch
What limiting factors affect the rate of photosynthesis
If there is enough Light e.g at night
Is there enough CO2 e.g if its very warm and bright
What is the Temperature e.g winter
The amount of chlorophyll
What is a limiting factor
A reactant in a chemical equation which runs out first/there is not enough
What adaptations have leaves made for photosynthesis
Most leaves are broad for max surface area
Most leaves are thin so gas diffusion
They can contain chlorophyll in the chloroplast to absorb light
They have plenty of water from the xylem and the produce of photosynthesis is taken away in phloem
They have open space that allows carbon dioxide to enter the cell
