What type of urine specimens are collected?
first morning , random , timed collection
which urine sample would be collected if we want it to be really concentrated?
first morning specimen (is concentrated and tends to be acidic)
what are the 2 types of timed collections?
predetermined by length and time (12hr, 24hr)
- 24hr collections are used for hormones and for creatine clearance tests
- 2hr for collection of urine glucose after any meal
what are the 5 collection techniques?
routine, midstream, catherdized, suprapubic aspiration , pediatric collections
If a urine sample is left at room temp what changes can occur?
- increased ph
- decreased glucose
- decreased acetoacetic acid
- decreased bilirubin
- nitrate may be falsely increased
- rbc, leuk, and hyaline casts may disintegrate
what are some of the internal quality control
