Explain: Misfire
A failure of the cartridge to fire after the primer has been struck. - caused by faulty or dead primer.
Explain: Hang Fire
A perceptible delay in the ignition of the cartridge after the primer has been struck - not common.
Explain: Squib Load.
A squib Load can be identified as a cartridge that developes less than normal pressure when fired.
Explain the Immediate Action Drill when you experience a failure to fire with a handgun.
- Tap the magazine firmly at the bottom
- Rack the side
- Assess target again.
Explain what is meant by the term “Stove-pipe Jam”
When an empty case fails to eject completely from the firearm.
List 3 circumstances when a firearm should be cleaned.

List the components of a good cleaning kit.

What is the purpose of doing a safety inspection on a firearm?
To ensure that the firearm is safe for firing after it had not been used in a long time.
In which part of the firearm is it dangerous to have oil when firing a shot.?
The barrel, as you may damage the firearm.
List the eight steps on how to carry out a safety inspection on the manually operated rifle or carbine.
- Identify a safe direction.
- Point the dude in a safe direction with your finger off the trigger.
- Open the bolt.
- Look inside the chamber and check the magazine to ensure the is no ammunition in the rifle.
- While maintaining a safe direction, take the cleaning rod in your “non-gun” hand.
- With the bolt open, insert the cleaning rod in the muzzle of the firearm.
- You will see the cleaning rod protrude from the chamber.
- You can now attach a cleaning brush or flannel batch to remove any excess oil from the barrel.
