Module 6 - Ammunition Flashcards
Describe a Primer
It is a small metal cup containing an explosive compound. It is heat and pressure sensitive. When it is struck and explosion occurs.
Describe the Powder
The powder burns creating a expansion gasses, which creates a pressure build-up - which will push the bullet down the barrel.
Describe the case.
A brass, steel or copper cylinder closed at one end l. Its function is to hold all the other components together.

- Squeezing the trigger on the firearm will cause the firing pin to strike the primer.
- The primer explodes sending a flash to the case.
- The flame ignites the powder.
- The powder burns creating a pressure build- up behind the bullet.
