Module 6 Flashcards
Descriptive statsitcs
Tools used to organize and illustrate data. Include, but are not limited to tables, graph , measures of central tendency, measures of variability
Population
A group of people what share similar traits or charecteristics. It is a group of people that you are interested in studying or making inference about. Target population vs. Accessible population
Sample
A subset of people from the target population and is ideally rondomly seclected from the population and is used to make inferences back to the population
What are the scales of measurement
- nominal
- ordinal
- interval
- ratio
Nominal
Categories with no order
Left hand vs right hand
Ordinal
Categories with order
100 m race 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Interval
Equal intervals between categories - no true zero
Tempr]erature - c
`
Ratio
Equal intervals between categories - true zero
Temp K
Non-parametric statistics
Nominal and ordinal
Parametric stastics
Interval and ration
Score
A value associated with any variable that you have measured
What is a collection of scores and how they arranged
A data set or distribution is a collection of scores - typically arranged in a series of columns and rows
Mode
The score that occurs most often in your data
What does the measure of central tendency give you
An idea of where the centre or majority of scores are located
