A

it is a condition as a result of oppression and multigenerational trauma

What is vacant esteem?

A

the absence/lack of or complete depletion of one’s ability to provide value to their families, community etc.
- connected to self-knowledge

What is ever present anger?

A

running into a reoccuring obstacle can lead to one being so frustrated to the point of constant anger. this obstacle can be from structural and systemic racism.
huge component: disrespect

example: being black in a workplace and despite all your efforts you are not respected or valued like your white counterparts.

What is racist socialization?

A

Born into inherently racist world. from birth to death, black children are socialized into a system that devalues and dehumanizes and restricts their needs and ability to succeed.

effect: internalized racism and chronic depression.
example: black men/women not wanting a “dark” s/o :(

What is invited suicide?

A

it is the phenomenon that is related to vacant esteem that explains how an individual can not value their life so much to the point that they do not care whether they die or not. an example would be the inner city child who did not move when someone else pointed a gun at him and pressed the trigger several times.

A

what is the impact epigenetics had on black children?

A

black children can not assume they will be successful because of multigenerational trauma which resulted from their ancestors being told that they are worthless and will not get anywhere in life. this impacted their genes and as a result black Americans have a lower self esteem.
