What is Affirmative Action?
Affirmative action is meant to help eliminate possible ethical issues by removing barrios, eliminating bias and recognizing underrepresented groups.
What is Pattern of behavior?
Choosing a certain type of employee is not unethical. The patterns of behavior can be considered unethical if the last six hiring decisions are pretty females, this creates a pattern.
Who is responsible for finding qualified candidates?
Managers are responsible for finding the most qualified candidates. The criteria should be based on what predicts success.
How is Utilitarian ethics related to hiring?
The utilitarian ethics approach requires that the hiring manager think about hiring consequences that may extend months or years.
How is the rights and duty approach related to hiring?
Human resources have a duty to respect the rights of hiring candidates.
Responsibility of Managers during performance appraisal is?
Compensation increase, improve job performance, remove inadequate employees, identify high performers and prepare for promotion, achieve overall improvement.
What is progressive discipline?
Clear quantifiable goals, Clear and formal communication, regular discussions, impacts to performance.
Compensation types?
Negotiated, Labor-management, contractual, salaries, raises. Performance not a factor.
Who determines CEO compensation?
The board of directors.
Who typically determines public employee raises?
State or local legislative bodies.
What are merit raises?
Based on quality of performance. Not all employees qualify. Objective criteria needed. Ethical dilemmas associated.
What privacy items cannot be asked at interviews?
Age, Marital status, Health history, and Hobbies.
What are physical requirements?
Jobs often require medical assessment to be completed on applications. These are only relevant if the job needs the application to have a certain level of physical ability.
