Describe the functions of a Chromebook
Developed by Google has an android OS and none of the info is stored on the computer. All activity is performed on the chrome browser and everything is stored in the cloud. Functions via apps only. It can only run online versions of Microsoft Office Suite and only at 10-20% of the full suite features.
Describe the functions of Apple Mac
Use MAC OS known as IOS or macOS. Has built in features such as email, photo tools, & videoconferencing. Can also run MS Office Suite and Access. Can flip back and forth from IOS to Windows
Describe the functions of a Laptop or PC
Use a Windows 10 OS and most commonly used by professionals. Onedrive, Azure (business solution) and Teams work seamlessly with Office 365 along with countless other 3rd party apps.

MS Teams rocks because it creates a comprehensive collaborative experience and it can integrates with 100’ s of 3rd party apps.

What is the hard drive on a PC?
A storage device containing a magnetic disk. It stores info on magnetized particles called terabytes. 1 terabyte holds tons of space (1 terabyte = 1,500 CD ROMs). They offer quick access with large storage but are fragile and easily damaged or can crash resulting in lost data.
What is a Solid-State Drive (SSD)?
Use flash memory chips w/ no movement (vs the hard drive that uses motors that spin magnetic platters & the drive heads) using less energy offering greater reliability and faster access.

What is Cloud based Software?
It is a newer way to distribute software. It is a series of redundant servers that stores my software and files which I can access through my devices. This multiple server architecture ensures security, reliability, and on-demand access. Makes it easy to share w/ co-workers anytime, anywhere having the most updated version of whatever is being worked on.
What are 2 disadvantages to using the Cloud?
- If you lose internet access you cannot access the Cloud but you can still work on your things, just won’t be updated until you regain access to the internet
- Using a third party storage need to be aware of privacy and security for info.
What is a dashboard?
It comes as one of the applications with a software suite and it provides a single-point interface with the cloud to manage downloads and updates.
What is AI?
Creating machines to do the same thing that people do
What is the Internet of Things (IoT)
IoT is a network of physical objects that have sensors and software for the purpose of connecting with other devices over the internet.
What is the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT)?
Robots are able to react in unexpected conditions.
-Healthcare: Robotic Arm.

What is Hyper-Automation?
Using technology to automate tasks that once required humans.
No single device can replace a human, so a combo of tools are used with the goal of achieving AI driven-decision making. (using robotic automation, intelligent business management software, and AI). So once my task reaches a certain point, these different things take over to do subtasks in relation to the original.
What is XR ?
Extended Reality: Refers to all real and virtual environments generated by computer graphics and wearables, which create a realistic 3D experience that you can perceive as real and interact with in realistic ways. It covers all the various forms of altered realities.
What are the 3 types of XR?
- AR- Augmented Reality: Overlay a visual, auditory, or other sensory info onto the real world to enhance one’s experience
- MR- Mixed Reality- The merging of real world reality with a digital one.
- VR- Virtual Reality - Can visualize the full scale of whatever it is you are looking at.
What is the OS in our devices and what does it do?
The Operating System is the software that provides instruction to the computer to perform basic operations like assigning storage space) and interacting with input and output devices.
i.e. Windows 10. Windows is the OS and “10” is the version
What is GUI?
Graphic User Interface that is a part of the OS we use this to select icons, buttons or objects with a pointing device or fingers.

- MS Windows - most common OS and Will always be Windows 10 just always updating.

What is a Software program?
A software program is a set of instructions that tells the computer what to do, when and where.
What are the 2 types of Software Programs?
- System Software- Controls the computer and peripherals such as keyboard and mouse. Typically for work, a software package will need to be installed to do your job.
- Application Software (apps for short)-Performs specific tasks. Some preinstalled things could be games and calculator etc.
What are some examples of Application Software you might need to install to do your job?
Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, Sales Force, QuickBooks

It’s usage is controlled and restricted through copyright laws

It is an application software that is custom developed for the specific needs of an organization or business. It takes a significant time to develop and is much higher in cost than packaged software.

Are added to your device with no need to install them.
Examples: Facebook and Amazon
What is the difference between a webpage and a web-based application?
A webpage just gives you access to information. A web-application enables you to do something
What is SaaS?
SaaS stands for Software as a Service which is where you pay a monthly subscription fee for a software package customizing your software needs instead of paying for the whole package which is expensive. Can download copies to multiple devices. This also frees up storage on your device. Usually can use on several devices.
