religious belief

Religious beliefs offer particular insights and understandings about life. These find expression in a variety of religious teachings and practices. While these terms are related to each other they also need some definition.

Q

religious teaching

A

Religious teachings guide and inform how people respond to religious belief.

For example, Catholic Social Teaching is a body of Catholic Church teachings that call people to put into practice important beliefs about God and God’s creation, including each and every person.

Both statements of Catholic belief and the teachings of the Church are expressed in a variety of Church documents. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is an important Church document that presents a summary of what Catholics believe and what the Church teaches about these beliefs.

Q

nicene and apostles creed

A

Two creeds commonly used in the Catholic church are The Apostles’ Creed and The Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed is more widely accepted by other Christian churches.
As well as emphasising the importance of the Trinity (including a precise description of the nature of Jesus), the Nicene Creed also describes the community of believers or the Church in terms of four qualities:
one, holy, catholic and apostolic.
