- Can be expensive depending on your package

- Wifi connects using radiowave transmissions and can connect to a fibre or ADSL connection
- A hotspot is an area in which a wifi network has been created for people to connect to the internet through the network
WIMAX
Worldwide Interoperatibility for Microwave Access
- An upgrade and more secure on wifi that allows more people to connect their devices to one another over a larger area than wifi
3G/4G LTE
- Generation of celluar technology that make use of infastructure of cellular networks
Social Networking sites
- Sites where you can post images, interests, comments, etc for people to see/read
- Benefits- Cost effective way to communicate, interactions are not restricted by geographical area, marketing tool for businesses, find more people who you share interests with, form communities
- Disadvantages- Easier to commit cyber crimes, lower productivity, distortion of reality/pretences, easier to spread misinformation, higher chances fro targeted advertising
Best practices toward social networking sites
- Be cautious of who you trust
- Protect yout privacy
- Restrict access to certain information on your profile
- Be careful of what you post about yourself and about others
- Restrict your screen time
VoIP
Voice Over Internet Protocol
- Technology that allows calls on the internet, LANs and WANs
- Skype, Whatsapp, Insta, Facetime use VoIP
- Needs a microphone, speaker, and camera
VoIP Benefits and Disadvantages
- Cheaper than regular calls
- Can conduct conference calls
- Software is generally free
- High data consumption
- Call quality depends on internet connection strength
Best prac: cut down use of video, decent headphones and microphone
Video conferencing
- Allows two or more people to hold a conference in different locations
Benefits: Cheaper than traveling to actual location, Can see the person you’re speaking to
Disadvantages: High data consumption, quallity of calls is dependant on internet connection
Best prac: well-lit room, good headset/microphone, ensure privacy in bg
RSS Feeds
Really simple Syndication
- Provides users with updated content from multiple different sites automatically
- Pro: saves time as theres no need to visit all sites, no spam as they are not emailed
- Con:Overloud of info is too many subscribed feeds, graphics and photos arent included
FTP
File Transfer Protocol
The protocol for fast, easy transfer of files between the remote computers that have an internet connection
E-commerce
- Any kind of business transaction that involves communication on the internet
Malware detection
- Virus signture/defintion- virus leaves a trace on the files
- Suspicious activity or irregular activity
