Module 2 Unit 6 -Longitudinal waves and sounds Flashcards
What is a sound wave ?
It is a pressure wave . Regions o high and low pressures are created as the sound vibrates.
What are the human sound frequencies?
From 20Hz to 20000Hz.
How are sound waves different from light waves ?
A sound wave is produced by an oscillating object while a light is not. A sound wave is a mechanical wave (i .e that it needs a medium )it is not capable of traveling through a vacuum whereas a light can travel through a vacuum.
Sound moves faster in ….
Solids
Sounds move slower in …
Gases
Why is wave speed in solids faster than liquids?
Density of solids is higher that of liquids which means that the particles are closer together
Sound can be transmitted more easily and quickly in…
Hotter substances
