  • Core of the word, can give basic meaning (Ex: Gastr)
  • Word part attached to the end of the word to modify its meaning
  • word attached to the beginning of the word root
  • This is a word part, usually an “o”, used between a root and a suffix to ease pronouncation

  • Read meaning of the medical term starting from suffix and moving back tot he beginning of the term and across

Electr/o/cardi/o/gram

-gram = record
Electr/o = electricity
-cardi/o = heart
—>Record of the electricity of the heart

Oste/o/arthr/o/pathy
-pathy=disease
Oste/o= bone
-arthr/o = joint
—> Disease of the bone and joint
