Module 2- Moles Of Gas/PV=nRT Flashcards
What do big numbers in equations tell you??
The ratio of moles in the equation
What does the equation work out??
The pressure, temperature, number of moles, gas constant and volume of an IDEAL GAS
What assumptions do we make about ideal gases??
1) no intermolecular forces between molecules
2) volume of molecules is negligibly small compared to volume of container
3) molecules move completely randomly
What is P in the formula??
Pressure- measured in pascals/ Pa
Conversion= 1KPa=1000 pascals
1 atmosphere= 101,325 Pa
1 bar= 100KPa= 100,000 Pa
What is V in the formula??
V= volume
Measured in M3
1M3= 1000 dm3= 1,000,000cm3
ALWAYS CONVERT TO Metres cubed
What is n in the formula??
Number of moles
Can be worked out by the gas equation of the mass/mr
What is the R in the equation??
R= the gas constant
It is always 8.134JK-1mol-1
What is T in the formula??
T= temperature
Must be in KELVIN
convert from degrees to kelvin by adding 273
