Powerful tool for treatment of chronic disease, obesity, premature death
Prevention of Diabetes Melitus, cancer (breast, colon), hypertension, depression, osteoporosis, coronary artery disease
Objective: Exercise recommendations across lifespan - 4 groups
Healthy people 2020 23% enough exercise for health benefit, 10% for cardiovascular fitness
CDC Adults 150 moderate or 75 vigorous minutes + muscle strengthening 2 days per week, all muscle groups. Pregnant same. Older adults same.
Children/adolescents 60 minutes/day aerobic, vigorous aerobic 3 days per week, muscle strengthening 3 days per week.

FITT Frequency Intensity Time Type (aerobic, muscle strengthening)
Objective: 5 A’s, what they are, how to apply
Ask - ask about/assess health/health risks - beliefs, knowledge, motivation, past experience, permission to talk about subject
Advise - non-judgmental, individual suggestions for further steps
Assess (motivation to change) - readiness to change, shared decision making
Assist - help make plan, provide with resources
Arrange - follow up
