Module 2 Flashcards
What is naturalistic observation
observation in a natural environment with no manipulation or control over the observation
Who is H.M
got hippocampus removed to stop seizures. it did effectively stop seizures but he couldnt form new memories
What are vulnerable populations
group of individuals who may not be able to give consent to participate in research
When the correlation gets stronger the coefficient gets closer to _____
+1 or -1
why can correlations be misleading
correlation not causation
Whats an independent variable
variable the experimenter will manipulate
Whats a dependent variable
variable the experimenter will measure
What are extraneous variables
variables that arent the focus of a study
Whats simple random sampling
type of sampling where everyone in a population has an equal chance of participating
Whats stratified random sampling
divides population by subgroup and randomly takes samples based on population of interest
Non-random sample?
not everyone in a population has an equal chance of participation
Whats internal validity
the degree to which results may be attributable to the independent variable rather than something else
External validity?
The degree to which a result can be applied outside of the experiment
spread of data
mean median mode
