Mod 7 Flashcards
What is learning
change in behaviour due to experience
Types of learning:
pavlovian conditioning, operant conditioning, latent learning, social learning
what is pavlovian conditioning
ivan pavlov studied how dogs digest food starting at the process of salvation
dogs salivated when he put his lab coat on as a reflec to thinking they were about to be fed
Pavlovian extinction:
repeatedly presenting a conditioned stimulus without an unconditioned stimulus
Stimulus generalization
an effect in which an animal notices similarities between objects and views them as the same
Operant conditioning
describes situations in which we can choose among different options based on previous experiences
(positive and negative) reinforcement _____ the probability of behaviour
increases
(positive and negative) punishment ______ probability of behaviour
decreases
reinforcers:
events or stimuli that follow behaviour and increase the likelihood of that kind of response
Latent learning:
type of learning that. has happened but hasnt had an opportunity to be demonstrated
Social learning:
observational learning, we learn what to do by watching others. especially through imitation
biological preparedness:
some events serve as bigger signals than others due to evolution
