What should Ground Rules be based on?
Specific for the project and consider the business environment, ways of working, and organizational ecosystem.
Ground Rules are essential to what stage in team development?
Norming. At this stage people are more apt to think as a team rather than as an individual. It’s essential to establish them at this stage so the team can move into Performing Stage. Agile teams will use Team Chartering.
What helps teams buy into Ground Rules?
Co-authoring. Creating formal document that everyone signs, or posted in a visible space.
Teams should focus on what when they are developing Ground Rules?
Encourage team to focus on work boundaries, work load and style to unite them around commonly held goals, principles and to establish ways of working.
What is Tickman’s Stages of Group Development? What is the PMs role in this?
Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, Adjourning. The PM recognizes stage and ensures team progresses.
What is a Project Charter?
A project charter is issued by the project sponsor, funder, stakeholder. It’s a formal arrangement between the project and the organization. It can be used as a tool to create ground rules because it tells the team what the work is and who they are responsible to.
What is a Team Charter and what should a good Team Charger Include?
A deliverable of the Ground Rules process.
Should include:
Shared values
Guide for communication and use of tools
Outlines how decisions are made
Outlines how conflicts are resolved
How and when teams will meet
Other team agreements, shared hours and improvement activites
What are Tools used to develop Ground Rules?
Project Charger
Prep-Work. The PM in a predictive setting, use surveys meetings, branstorming to facilitate information gathering and preferences, backgrounds and individual expectations before they meet to set Ground Rules. In Agile, every member equally contributes toward establishing the team GR or ways of working.
RACI Matrix. it captures already who does what.
What are Deliverables and Artifacts of the Ground Rules process?
The Ground Rules are defined in the Team Charter
Why are Ground Rules needed?
Provides an early commitment to clear guidelines, decreases misunderstandings, and increases productivity. It should be updated and reviewed for continued understanding and to integrate new team members.
Who is responsible for enforcing the Ground Rules
Everyone.
