A managed building/establishment, which provides guests with a place to stay overnight on a short-term basis in exchange for money
Hotel
The section of the service industry that deals with guest accommodation/lodings. Refers not only to hotels, but also to many other forms of overnight accommodation
Hotel Industry
Most common type of accommodation in the hotel industry; defined as an establishment that offers accommodation, meals & other services; provide private rooms and have en-suite bathrooms; mainly aimed at travellers/tourists
Hotels
Smaller establishments, which offer guests private rooms for overnight stays, along with breakfast in the morning. These establishments are converted from private homes
Bed and Breakfasts/B&Bs
Form of overnight accommodation tailored toward motorists; typically located conveniently by the roadside and offer ample free parking; fewer amenities than hotels
Motels
Name given to a boat that has been adapted to offer hotel-style lodgings; moored riverboats; popular in European cities with rivers or canals
Botels
An establishment that provides temporary accommodation, usually along with food and drinks; smaller than hotels and are closer in size to bed and breakfasts
Inns
Commercial establishments, which will usually consist of a hotel and a variety of additional service and amenities, on-site
Resorts
Popular among business travellers. Apartment-style lodgings, where guests benefit from a full range of services. Tend to be larger than most hotel rooms
Serviced Apartments
A form of accommodation, primarily found in Spanish-speaking regions. They resemble a budget hotel, offering either private bedrooms/apartments; most are family-owned & guests may sometimes share bathrooms with others
Hostals
A form of accommodation, typically aimed at those on a budget, where multiple guests sleep in different beds in the same living space; guests pay for a bed, rather than a private room
Hostels
Essentially an apartment building, which operates hotel-style services; provides a similar experience to renting an apartment with an option to check-in and check-out, rather tha signing a fixed-term contract
Apartment Hotels
Often promoted on the basis of aspiration and luxury. Situated within relatively small buildings; often have a particular theme and commonly found in trendy, urban areas
Boutique Hotels
A condominium building, which operates as a hotel, providing guests with the opportunity to rent a condo unit for a short period of time
Condo Hotels
The basic definition of this is a hotel, which has specifically taken steps to embrace sustainable living practices, in order to minimise the environmental damage; prioritise the use of local products, adopt recycling, focus on energy saving, etc
Eco Hotels
