Module 1 Dihedral angles Flashcards
What is the omega angle
Between the alpha carbon of one residue and the other alpha carbon by the C–N bond
What is the phi angle
Looking through N–C bond to compare between carbon on C=O to alpha carbon
What is the psi angle
Looking through C–C bond to compare N from one residue to the other N in the other residue
Why is psi and phi angle important
Folding of proteins and allow all conformational freedom in carbon backbone
The values of omega for trans/cis
trans - 180
cis - 0
Why is trans isomers favoured and by how much
Favoured energetically due to steric hindrance in cis form (trans 1000:1)
- Proline is a smaller ratio since both forms have similar steric hindrance
How is the character of peptide bonds like
40% covalent bond character
