Module 1 Flashcards
Einthoven’s Triangle
frame of reference, body is a large conducting medium
ECG
record of electrical activity of atrial and ventricular cells (only depolarization and repolarization); gives info on heart orientation, conduction, shows presence of ischemic damage and mass of muscle
Ambulatory ECG (Holter)
good for detecting myocardial ischemia; 24hr portable ECG, gives qualitative and quantitative means of detecting cardiac events
Exercise Tolerance Testing (ETT)
stress test; for diagnosis and follow up patients with ischemic heart disease; gives info for prognosis and severity of illness
ST segment
interval btw ventricular depolarization and repolarization; most reliable indicator of myocardial ischemia (Restiction)
Tilt table technique
assess bodies HR and BP response to change in position; test is positive if patient develops drop in BP
Signal Averaging Technique
enables recording of low level cardiac signals; to identify ventricular late potentials (VLP) and t-wave alterans (TWA); aligns each beat for a specified number of beats over selected period of time
