The government regulates land use based on hazard maps that depict hazards such as lava flow risk or liquefaction risk

The establishment of settlements, key infrastructure or damage to bio protection such as mangroves

Due to weak governance
How can aid help in land use zoning?
E.g. Montserrat where Volcanologists were provided from the UK who established an exclusion zone just before the 1997 eruption, 4000 people evacuated from Plymouth just months before it was destroyed
What is GIS mapping?
Digital mapping software that stores geographical data which can be layered onto a map allowing the analysis of relationships between datasets
How can GIS help?
It can map hazard zones which can then be managed with methods such as land use zoning

At building specially designed to be resistant to EQ’s
