- Three structural interests: Professional monopolists, Equal health advocates, Corporate rationalists
Easton’s model
- Input, Black box, Output
- In the government there are inputs such as demands, support, resources that are influenced by scarcity and competition –> we cannot see what is happening in the black box –> through policies there come outputs such as goods and services

- Policymakers logically move through a series of steps
- Best alternative is chosen by policy maker
- Power can have influence on governmental, institutional and societal level on these decisions

Sometimes moments where policy is really stable and sometimes radical different ways of doing things are possible
- crisis for radical change
- punctuated bc it is one point in time
Engeneering model
Ideally there should be a direct, sequential and relatively rapid relationship between research findings and policy decisions (linear process)
Enlightenment model
Acknowledges an indirect application of research insights towards policy solutions (works too late)
Elective affinity model
Policymakers accept faster insights of research when they participated
Linkage and exchange model
Good practices to setup the bridge between scientific and political/policy approach of societal problems
Conceptual model of knowledge transfer process, Ward
Five common components of knowledge transfer process, researchers to policy:
1. Problem identification and communication
2. Knowledge/research development and selection
3. Analysis of context
4. Knowledge transfer activities or interventions
5. Knowledge/research utilization
Rational model tells us
What is important will be taken up by the policy makers and politics
