Appendicitis
Inflammation of the appendix
Chyme
Combination of the gastric juice with the food ingested
Colitis
Inflammation of the colon (large intestine)
Crohn’s Disease
Can affect any part of the GI track but most often affects the ileum. Damage appears in patches next to healthy tissue. The inflammation affects several layers of the GI track walls
Diverticulitis
The diverticula become inflamed or infected
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Occurs when the stomach contents back up into esophagus, causing acid reflux or heartburn
Inguinal Hernia
Most common type of hernia. A bulge forms in the groin and may extend into the scrotum. Occurs when tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Disorder of the large intestine, although it does not cause harm to the colon
Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD)
AKA as duodenal, gastric, and stomach ulcers. Is a sore or breakdown in the lining of the stomach or duodenum. Occur in the first section of the small intestine
Stomach Ulcer
Peptic ulcer or gastric ulcers occur in the stomach. Is a sore or breakdown in the lining of the stomach
Liver
One of the largest organs in the body and is located just below the diaphragm, in the right hypochondriac and epigastric regions. Divided into two major lobes and two smaller lobes
Hernia
Common disorder that occurs when part of an internal organ (e.g., intestine) bulges through a weak area in the muscles. Types: hiatial, femoral, inguinal, and umbilical

GB found in a small area on the underside of the liver. Stores and concentrate bile

Hemorrhoid
Swollen and inflamed veins. External hemorrhoids are located around the anus, and internal hemorrhoids affect the lining of the anus and the lower rectum

Or colon has about a 3-inch lumen and is about 5 feet long

Has about a 1-inch lumen and is about 20 feet lo9ng
