Used to express possibilities about the present or future. They indicate if things are likely to happen.
Modals of Prediction/Possibility
Used to indicate an action a person is bound to do.
Modals of Obligation
Used in giving advice.
Modals of Suggestion
Used for asking, giving, and stating that someone has permission.
Modals of Permission
Used in asking someone to do something.
Modals of Request
Used in expressing a wish.
Modal of Wish
Give the modals of Prediction/Possibility in order of certainty.
Could, Might/May, Must
Give the modals of Ability
Can(present) and Could(past)

Should(with options), Ought to(uncommon), Must(most powerful)
