*What are the two types of sweat glands?
Eccrine glances and apocrine glands
*What do the eccrine glands contain & what do they secrete?
Contain a duct that leads from the secretory portion to the skin’s surface. Produce sweat (Which helps the body maintain a constant cord temperature and helps the body eliminate wastes)
*What do the apocrine glands contain?
A duct that leads to a hair follicle; these are sent glands that respond to stress and sexual stimulation
What is stratum corneum (outermost layer) composed of and what is its function?
Up to 30 layers of dead, flat keratin-coated cells.
Makes skin surface durable and resistant to abrasions
New skin cells produce which tough, fibrous protein?
Keratin
What is the role of the papilla?
Nourishes each hair
What happens to our skin as we get older?
Loses elasticity and collagen, resulting in sagging.
Vascular - Start to lose slack in our vessels which can cause vessel to not be as tight which can affect blood flow (blood pressure)
