Q
Brief summary of how the Latin ‘past tense’ works
A
imperfect tense is used for actions that take place over an extent of time in the past (imagine a video clip of a past event), perfect tense is used for actions that happened once or are decidedly “over and done with” (imagine a still snapshot of the same past event), and pluperfect tense is for making it clear that the event in pluperfect was even earlier in the past than other past tense events in the same passage, which will be in imperfect or perfect.
