What is Job Production?
Job Production refers to the manufacturing process where the business makes one specific product/item to the exact requirements of the customer. For example: wedding dress, a custom cake or car.
What are the benefits of Job Production?
- Meets specific needs of the customer
- Motivates employees as they have pride in their work
- Usually linked with quality and good craftsmanship
- Increases in customer care and customer satisfaction
What are the drawbacks of Job Production?
- Very labour intensive
- High labour costs
- Longer production time
What is Batch Production?
Batch Production refers to when a group of identical products with specific specifications are produced; then another group of identical products with different specific specifications are produced.
What are the benefits of Batch Production?
- Greater potential for division of labour
- Compared to job production, greater output levels
- Increased efficiency as more machinery is used
What are the drawbacks of batch production?
- Greater potential for defects
- Less motivation due to monotony
- Items are no longer special, therefore there might be a reduction in the selling price.
What is Flow Production?
Flow Production refers to the large number of the same goods continuously produced over a long period of time usually done on an assembly line.
What are the benefits of Flow Production?
- High output/low cost
- Product is standardized
- Division of labour
What are the drawbacks of Flow Production?
- Standardized products make sell for less
- High establishing and maintaining costs
- Lack of motivation
