MMT Flashcards
hip extension prone
leg straight knee flexed
resistance post leg above knee
stabilize PSIS
*when testing with knee flexed: glut max
when knee is straight and resistance given at ankle: hamstrings not on slack, increases mechanical advantage for therapist
hip ext sup
legs straight, tell pt to push heels into hand and lift up off table cupping heel
hip flex
testing iliopsoas
short sitting, resistance over proximal thigh in a doward diection
hip abduction
glut med, min
side lying, hip slightly extended beyond midline w pelvis rotated slightly forward, lower leg flexed for stability
therapist behind pt, resistance at lat ankle (more challenging for pt) or lat knee
hip abd in flexion
TFL
side lying, leg flexed to 45, foot resting on table
resistance lat surface of thigh, just above knee
stabilize iliac crest
hip adduction
pt sidelying with lower leg restin on table, upper limb abducted 25 degrees and supported by examiner
therpiat behinf pt, cradlin upper limb with forearm and supporting leg with hand placement on pts med thigh
resistance is downward on med surface of distal femur
hip IR
glut min, TFL, glut med
short sitting
hand resisting is positioned at ankle above lat mall
other hand provides counterpressure around the medial thigh
resistance applied medially directed at the ankle as other hand gives counterpressure at knee
hip ER
short sitting
resistance laterally at ankle, other hand on the lateral thigh counterpressure
sartorious (flex, abd, ER)
short sitting, ankle resting on opp knee
one hand on lat knee and the other of dist ant/med leg just above ankle
at knee, resist hip flex and abd
at ankle, resist hip ER and knee flex
knee ext
quads
short sit with towel under distal thigh
stabilize ASIS, resistance to ant-dist leg
DONT LET KNEE LOCK OUT
knee flex
hamstrings
prone, toes over edge of table
stabilize pelvis, resistance to post ankle
PT can stand facing either way
plantar flex
tested with unilateral toe rises
**remember grading
DF and inv
tib ant sitting over edge of table stabilize around leg prox to mall other hand on dorsal medial foot ask pt to move foot "up and in"
PF and eversion
Peroneals sitting or sup stabilize around leg above mall resistance around dorsal lat border tell pt to put foot down and out
flex of MTP and IP of hallux
FHB and FHL
short sit or sup
one hand on dorsum of foot
resistance on either side of hallux or with finger on plantar surface of the prox and dist phalanges.
tell pt to bend big toe and hold while you try to straighten
can also use paper grip
