Q

What does the electronics subsystem do?

A
  • Measures and analyzes amount of O2 in the diver’s breathing gas and automatically provides required amount of O2
  • 2 separate displays that show the condition of the MK16

16
Q

What does CSAV stand for?

A

Combat Swimmer Assault Vest

17
Q

Where are the support screens located in the scrubber assembly?

A

Directly above and below the canister

18
Q

Describe the path exhaled gas takes within the canister:

A
  1. Exhaled gas travels thru the first moisture absorbent pad
  2. Gas travels thru the base of the canister into the first (hydrophobic) filter
2a. Filter provides uniform gas distribution
  3. Then thru the absorbent where CO2 is removed
  4. Then thru a compression pad and scrubber
  5. Thru the canister lid before flowing thru the upper moisture absorbent pad
  6. Then outside the canister into the diaphragm
19
Q

What is the purpose of the diluent addition valve?

A

Automatically add volume to the breathing loop

20
Q

How does the diaphragm work?

A

Controls volume of gas in the breathing loop
* when volume in the breathing loop increases, the diaphragm increases in size until it actuates the dump valve
* When volume in the breathing loop decreases, the diaphragm shrinks until the diluent addition valve is actuated

21
Q

How does the PEA communicate?

A
  • Receives signals from 3 O2 sensors that tell it what the PPo2 in the breathing loop is
  • PEA tells the Primary the condition of the system
  • PEA tells the O2 addition valve when to add
  • PEA has a depth sensor to switch between .75 and 1.3
22
Q

What is the error for depth correction to 1.3 PPO2?

A

+/- 2 at 33FSW
or
+/- 2 above 13 FSW

23
Q

What exactly tells the PEA whether to send a drive signal to open the O2 addition valve or close the addition valve?

A

If a majority of the O2 sensors are above a predetermined set-point, the PEA tells the addtition valve to close
If a majority of te O2 sensors are below a predetermined set-point, the PEA tells the addition valve to open
