Q

briefly describe how the liebig condenser works.

A

The water and ethanol are heated. The ethanol vapours (which
evaporate first) rise up the distillation flask. As they pass through
the condenser, the vapours are cooled down, turning back into a
liquid which can be collected.

Q

Chromatography
-Why are the different colours in ink able to be separated in this way?

A

Different pigments have different masses. The heavier the pigment,
the less far the colour can travel with the water (solvent). The
lighter the pigment, the further it will travel.
