Mixoploidy Flashcards
1
Q
What are mixoploid individuals?
A
Individuals composed of cells from 2 or more distinct cell lineages
2
Q
What is mosaicism?
A
When the multiple cell lineages in an individual came from the same zygote
3
Q
What are 5 mechanisms that lead to mosaicism?
A
X-inactivation Somatic mosaicism Germline mosaicism Mitotic nondisjunction Mitotic crossing over
4
Q
What is a chimera?
A
Individual composed of 2 or more cell lineages that originated from different zygotes
5
Q
How are chimeras usually created?
A
Fusion of dizygotic twin embryos. Two eggs got released and both got fertilized, then they fused
6
Q
What is interesting about chimeras genetics-wise?
A
Can have up to 4 different alleles. Some tissues will show some alleles and others will show different alleles
