Mitosis + little cancer Flashcards
The three stages of cell reproduction
Interphase, Mitosis, Cytokinesis
3 types of cell division
Binary fission (prokaryotic), Mitosis (eukaryotic), Meiosis ( eukaryotic)
Why do cells divide?
repair, replace, reproduce, growth
What is cancer
out of control cell division
What does one parent cell make
two daughter cells
name the four stages of mitosis
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
What the longest and shortest stage of the cell cycle
Longest: Interphase. Shortest: Cytokinesis
What does the cell do in Interphase
grow, make organelles, replicates DNA
Prophase
nuclear membrane breaks down, chromosome condense, spindle fibers formed, centrioles move to opposite side of cell
Metaphase
Spindle fibers pulls x-shaped chromosomes in the middle of the cell.
Anaphase
Spindle fibers contract and pull the chromatids to opposite sides of cell
Telophase
Nuclear membrane reforms, chromosomes form chromatin, now two nuclei
Cytokinesis
Splitting the one cell into two, new cell membranes form, cell starts interphase.
what is Diploid
Body cells (2n), 46 chromosomes (does mitosis)
What is gametes
Sex cells (n), 23 chromosomes (does meiosis)
