Cells Flashcards
Process of making offspring.
Reproduction
Asexual
One parent, makes genetically identical offspring
Sexual
2 parents, makes genetically different offspring
Why is reproduction important.
Species not go extinct, keep life cycle alive, keep environment stable (food chain)
cell membrane
controls what goes in and out of the cell. animal and plant
Cytoplasm
holds organelles position. Plant and animal
Cell wall
additional protection and shaping. plant
Nucleus
holds DNA, controls cell’s activity, make ribosomes. plant and animal
vacuoles
storage of materials (food, water, etc). Plant and animals
Mitochondria
Powers the cell, makes energy. Plant and animal
Chloroplasts
does photosynthesis. Plant
Vesicles
small sacs hold materials that come in or out of the cell. Plant and animal
Ribosomes
Makes proteins. Plant and animal
Endoplasmic reticulum
A series of canals, transport materials through the cells. Plant and animals
Golgi Apparatus
Stores and packages protein. Plant and animal
Lysosomes
patrols and protects using power enzymes to destroy harmful substances. Animal
Flagella
tail for movement. Animal
Cilia
small “hairs” for movement. Animal
Prokaryotic
No nucleus e.g batcteria
Eukaryotic
yes nucleus e.g every day animals
Continuity
how does a species keep it’s offspring alive. E.g. humans spend all the time protecting one offspring or salmon spawn lots of eggs so some dying won’t mean much
Sustainability
How the offspring interacts with other parts of the environment.
