Mitosis Flashcards
What phase is the resting phase
Interphase
Four phases to Mitosis
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
Cell’s resting place
Cell spends 90% of time in this phase
Cell copies/doubles its chromosomes and prepares for cell to division
Interphase
Nucleolus and nuclear membrane disappear
centrioles or poles appear and move to opposite ends of the cell
spindle fibers begin to stretch across the cell like spider webs
chromosome pairs become visible attached to one another by centromere
Prophase
Chromosomes pair line up at the equator (center of the cell)
Chromosomes attach to the spindle fibers at the centromere
Metaphase
Chromosomes pairs separate and move to opposite end of the cell
Anaphase
Two new nuclei form
Chromosomes change to chromatin (threads rather than rods_
Mitosis ends
Telophase
Separates and two new cells form
Different in plant cells (cell wall forms down the center) and animal (cell membrane pinches in)
Cytokinesis
